Hi, my name is Ishah Kearse and 11 years ago when I was 7, I was riding my bicycle and I was struck by a van, almost losing my life. My injuries were so severe that the doctors said I would never walk even if I did survive.

For the next several years I had to learn how to do everything all over again. I proved the doctors wrong on everything, but as you might imagine I still had a lot of physical problems.

So I thought it wasn't unusual for your back to hurt as you got older. I wasn't paying attention to the signs. After 5 days of back abuse (lifting, standing, business trip, golf) I woke up and couldn't stand. A neighbor saw me struggling to move and recommended Dr. Cohen. I came to Life First originally to support my husband. After our visit to the Wednesday night Patient Orientation Class, I decided to become a patient as well. At that time I had ongoing neck and back pain and thought I was destined to live with it. Before care, I had regular reoccurring lower back stiffness and pain. I also had cramps in my neck on a regular basis. When I shifted in bed I would get pains in my chest as well. I also had frequent bouts of mild to moderate acid reflux and heartburn.

Since being under Dr. Cohen’s regular care I have no longer needed to use my reading glasses, had less indigestion and better sleep. Recently I had a minor stroke and lost the full use of my left leg, the condition is known as “Drop Foot”. Dr. Cohen was invited to give a presentation on health and nutrition where I am employed at the City of Pompano Beach. I was very interested in what he had to say particularly with regard to digestion. You see things at that time had been kind of rough as far as eating. My problem had begun about 5 years earlier and had already been to the hospital 2 or 3 times. Every time I ate food was actually getting stuck in the esophagus and I had to force myself to throw up or risk choking. The hospital did tests but couldn’t tell me what was wrong.

After my first visit with Dr. Cohen he showed me how my nervous system directly connected to my esophagus and my x rays told him there was pressure on my nerve in the lower neck. Several months ago my company held a health expo. It just so happened I was suffering from painful sciatica at the time. I had been to doctors who prescribed medication but did little to find the root cause of my problem. Fortunate for me Dr. Cohen was one of the participants at the expo. I spoke to him about my pain and he suggested I make an appointment so he could do an in-depth examination of my spine. I figured I had nothing to lose since no one had been able to help me so far.

The next week I met with Dr. Cohen and after his examination which included x-rays, he determined what seemed to be causing my pain. The space between two bones in my lower spine was narrowed and as a result my sciatic nerve was being pinched. Also he informed me that my neck was out of alignment. I first sought out chiropractic care when my doctors had no answers for my heart palpitations. I took every test in the book and they could not figure out my case. I was having severe palpitations and tightness in my chest. This was also giving me uncontrollable anxiety that could not be cured.
